À la découverte de bulles québécoises

Discovering Quebec bubbles

Domaine Bergeville Vineyards

Mid-July, light cloudy periods in a blue sky, direction North Hatley. Perfect day to stroll along the main street of this resort to the sound of an orchestra playing in the pavilion on the shores of Lake Massawipi. Always a pleasure!

Then direction Canton de Hatley. Barely two kilometers of road and we arrive at the magnificent Domaine Bergeville vineyard.

The place is superb and the layout is magnificent. Imagine a welcoming pavilion, next to which nestles a small pond lined with flowers, all in the middle of rows of well-pruned vines. The visit promises to be wonderful.

Upon arrival, we meet Ève Rainville, owner of the place with her partner Marc Théberge. Smiling, she welcomes us warmly and begins a fascinating conversation on the theme of wine. We haven't told you yet, but Ève is a producer of organic and biodynamic sparkling wines.

Ève Rainville from Domaine Bergeville

The first vines were planted in 2009. Today the estate has 12,000 plants spread over three hectares. The grape varieties are selected based on their good adaptation to the climate of our region. Over the years, winegrowers have not hesitated to uproot plants to eliminate grape varieties that did not meet their standards and which did not allow them to obtain the wine they wanted.

Domaine Bergeville exclusively produces Champagne method sparkling wines: white, rosé and even red. Very few sparkling wines are produced in Quebec. However, according to Ève, the climate in our region is perfect for this type of production. She even adds that it would correspond to that of Champagne (France) 20 years ago, before climate warming.

Obviously, a visit to the Domaine is not complete without a tasting. Which we didn't deprive ourselves of... Of course! You too can do the same by stopping there on your next trip to the area.

During the summer period, the vineyard is open to visitors from Wednesday to Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

And why not take advantage of your visit to stock up? But, if you run out of some, no worries, you can always get some at Gourmande boutique in Sherbrooke.
